Manually Update
When a new release is available, HiTechAdmin shows a notification. A server with automatic updates on installs it by itself; this page is for updating by hand.
- With HiTechAdmin
- With HiTechCloudCLI
Go to HiTechAdmin > Settings > Update Preferences and click Update Now. The button is shown only when a newer release is available.
Check what is available, then install it:
hitechcloudcli update --check # report the available release; changes nothing
hitechcloudcli update --force # update now, even with automatic updates off
What an update does
The release is downloaded from mirrors.hitechcloud.org and checked against
its signed SHA256SUMS before anything is installed. Then one ordered list of
steps brings the server in line with the release, whatever release it came
from: templates, panel binaries, the webmail, the customer portals that are
switched on, and the services' configuration. Each service that needs a
restart is restarted once, at the end, and the panels are checked to answer.
Customer data (website files, mailboxes, databases, DNS zones) is kept.
The full description, and the options that update only one part (--panel,
--admin, --cli) or refresh one area's configuration (--clamav,
--apache, --cron and others), is in
hitechcloudcli update.
When an update did not finish
hitechcloudcli update --repair
runs the same steps again from the release already on disk, without
downloading it. When a panel does not answer after an update, read
/var/log/hitechcloud/user/panel.log (2083) or
/var/log/hitechcloud/admin/admin.log (2087). More in
Troubleshooting.
